Nice little article Mike, especially with the pictures.

@RadoFan- the problem for me with the 2002 box set is that there are only two watches that I'd wear- the DS1 reproduction and the Accustar. I personally prefer the two stand alones that I've managed to get.

I would heartily congratulate anyone who managed to acquire one of those sets though.

I'd put up with that damage on that colour dial too. It is too nice. You did a nice job of resurrecting that one too.

I noticed I put a duplicate picture in the last post. This is the one I meant ot include:

  • Mine doesn't get too much wear anymore. I might move it along. If I want vintage steel I usually go for the Jetliner or the Starliner now.

Close to the bottom of this page there are day/date instructions for the "Daymasters".

  • Congratulations. Nice NGH. It'sa great watch. Nice size, clear and easy to read. Mine used to be my daily wear work watch.

Hey Mike- is that the one you got from Sinn? It looks good.

Thanks for the compliment on the Manhattan but that watch is no longer mine. I passed it on to Cindy on Tuesday.

    This is my new Manhattan:

Of course, it no longer looks like that. It now looks like this:

    .

The case is much sharper than the old one and the dial does not have any gasket damage.

I did a Google search as well. Some of the images you found may be some of my watches. I also saw Mikes LR.

There is very little known about Louis Rossel. They seem to have sold watches starting in the mid to late sixties and possibly continuing to the end of the eighties. I saw an LR diver with papers that was sold late in 1989. They seem to have been a design house. Some of their early watches are a bit suspect; low jewel count movements, and steel plated brass cases. Early in the seventies they made a big jump in quality and by the late seventies they were building watches with sapphire crystals and shortly after that TC cases as well. The movements may not have been as fancy as Rados but they used high jewel count ETAs , usually 2836s or 2892s. The build quality was comparable to Rado and I have found them to be almost bulletproof.

Here are a few of mine:

    One of my wife's:

When Rado introduced the Centrix there were about a dozen variants and all but one were quartz. The one automatic almost seemed an afterthought.
I thought they got it right though and managed to convince my wife to buy it for me for my birthday last year.

It seems I am not the only one who liked it. I noticed that Rado now has a little over 30 variants available and nearly half are automatic.

I also collect Louis Rossels. They are the only brand that could regularly make Rado look tame.

Some of the GP NCCs do have a brass case. My 101 has some ruboff and it is clearly brass underneath.

@ Radofan_ that is only the GP models. By this time all Rado stainless cases are solid stainless. I also agree with Mike- you should not turn that one into a stainless version. Everything else about it is correct for a GP model.

    Happy Friday all!

Thanks. Those are both early versions of the legendary SK "fishtail" bracelet. I also have the later lightweight version on both my Diamasters.

That's good- I couldn't imagine how or whey someone would make an NCC caseback out of gold coloured material.

11943 is the correct reference for a GP NCC-505. Here is mine:

11942 is the reference for the Stainless variant. Here is my steel 505:

That's bizarre. Perhaps it was painted silver? I thought the caseback looked gold in your photo but assumed it was a trick of the light. What colour is your caseback?

Nice, congratulations. I have one small winder and I keep my modern Rados init.

Do I spy a GP NCC 505 in that winder?

Mike- you really should take some new pictures. You've got some very nice and uncommon pieces.

  • Thanks all.

Mike- the lume is blue, not the usual green. Quite blue and quite powerful. It is very attractive.

I'm going to be near a pretty good AD at the end of January, I'm hoping the Hyperchrome or Specchio will be out by then. The D-Star was released just before Christmas last year.

Nice. I really like that dial variant. I have two "modern" Diastars, both 2002 Limited Editions.

40 Years Diastar XL, limited to 300 watches

Diastar 40 Chronometer, limited to 600 pieces.

    Size comparison of the two.

  • The D-20-200 Chrono is a gorgeous and very comfortable watch. It is also much too big for me. The D-200 is better sized. I think it is more or less the same size as the D-Star.

    Here's my D-Star:

Mike- I was hoping there might be a Hyperchrome when I was in Vegas, but no luck. I would love to see oen in real life.
